Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a public school?

Yes.  College Prep Academy utilizes a public school code from the state of California.  We are part of the Redding School District and enjoy full access to its resources and guidance.  We need to meet the same requirements of other public schools.  We do work with families with immunization concerns and do meetings off site to accommodate.

What are the admission requirements?

We serve Transitional Kindergarten (must be 5 no later than February 2, 2023) through eighth grade students.  Since we are part of the Redding School District, students who reside outside of Redding's boundaries must fill out an inter-district transfer request.  See that process within the Process section.  Immunizations are required for students who intend to use the site based enrichment but we will work with families who prefer to homeschool only and are choosing to not immunize their children.  Students with an IEP must have an IEP transitional meeting first, where the team makes the decision to offer this as the best placement for the child.

Do you have site based classes?

We are a homeschool program that has some site based enrichment and tutoring opportunities for students each week.

How does your curriculum work?

We provide a California adopted curriculum that is best suited for homeschool students.  Depending on the students needs, we do modify or enrich the curriculum using a variety of curriculum choices that we have available.  However, we encourage parents to add enrichment activities to assigned topics to better meet learning goals of their children.

We also offer many before and/or after school activities provided by the district. (sports, music, dances, clubs)

What opportunities are provided for my child to meet other students?

Students can participate in a variety of enrichment opportunities including school activities, functions, field trips, and other fun academic group activities throughout the year.
